Monday 8th January

Ken Montandon , Andy Bond and Myself decided to go up to East Anglia to do some birding , we left Exeter at around 2 am and on the way we stopped off at Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire were we got out first tick of the trip with 2 Barn Owl`s seen .
We arrived at Hazlewood Common in Suffolk just after 1st light and it was freezing !! but we soon saw the bird we had made the trip for a ( Coues`s ) Arctic Redpoll a tick for all of us so we were well pleased with that and soon warmed up , also seen were a few Lesser Redpoll and a couple of Mealy Redpoll , a fly through Merlin and a Lesser Spotted Woodpecker .
Other birds of note seen in Suffolk were 30+ Snow Bunting at Slaughton Sailing Club & a few Bewick`s Swan at Wesleton , also seen nearby was a Chinese Water Deer a 1st for me .
On then to Cantley in Norfolk where a distant Taiga Bean Goose was just about picked out , we then finished the day off at Stubs Mill where we saw 30+ Western Marsh Harrier , 11 Common Crane , a male and a female Hen Harrier , a calling Tawny Owl & 3 more Chinese Water Deer .
